Scarce map of the County of Cumberland which extends from the Hawkesbury in the north, Penrith in the west and south to Bulli. Railways and rivers are marked as is the Royal National Park that was established in 1879 making it the second oldest national park in the world.
In 1837 Sands came to Sydney for health reasons and with stationery valued at £500 he set up business in George Street. In 1848 he took over a shop front next to the General Post Office. By 1870 as stationers, booksellers, printers and account book manufacturers the firm was one of the largest of its kind in Australia and in that year won prizes for printing and book production at the Inter Colonial Exhibition in Sydney.
