Description:

Early edition of this scarce “Tourist” map New South Wales dated at bottom, 1918. The map extends from Broken Bay to the Victorian border and west as far as Cootamundra. These Tourist maps were very rarely dated.

The colonial mapping of New South Wales initially recorded the progress of inland exploration for the opening up of new country for economic investment. This  c.20th map on the other hand, is an early record of the social change of tourism. The map clearly illustrates that there was a large use of motor vehicles for holidaying around the state. The map also includes locations of lighthouses, “Streams stocked with Trout & Bass“, and noted is the condition of roads.
