Description:

Large scale Hydrographic chart of New Zealand first issued 1872 and this map corrected to 1878. John Lort Stokes in command of the survey vessel the H.M.S. Acheron, began the survey of the coasts in 1849. By May 1851 the Acheron was replaced by the smaller sailing brig H.M.S Pandora, under the command of Byron Drury, they charted the north-west coast of the North Island.

A rare chart, the majority of hydrographic charts were usually thrown out as more up to date ones were issued.
