Colonial pioneers such as Jardine & Mathesons and the Sassoon family are amongst the owners of some of these splendid buildings. A key provides a list of thirty three landmarks. The name ‘Hong Kong’ is derived from two Chinese characters, Heung and Gong, meaning "fragrant harbour".
