Description:

Engraving of Shamrock III, the new challenger for the America Cup, was successfully launched on St. Patrick’s Day from the yard of Messrs. Denny, her builders, at Dumbarton, on the Clyde for Sir Thomas Lipton of tea fame.

The naming ceremony was performed by the Countess of Shaftesbury, wife of the Commodore of the Ulster Yacht Club. Sir Thomas Lipton, the owner, and many of his friends were present. Our illustration shows the yacht afloat on her cradle.
