Description:
Rare c.19th photograph of Knapsack Gully Viaduct on the Zig Zag near Emu Plains, at Penrith by Nicholas Caire.
As noted on the paster label on the verso:
The Knapsack Gully Viaduct is situated on the Zig Zag, near Emu Plains, at Penrith. The Viaduct spans the Gully from the Lapstone Hill to the Knapsack, and is so named in consequence of its having been constructed by convict labour, i.e., knapsack men.
