Racinet was a French, illustrator, painter and author of books on costumes and ornaments. He trained as a lithographer and draftsman, with his father and at the Paris School of Drawing. He worked at the publisher Firmin Didot et Cie, as an engraver and artistic director from 1869 to 1888, and his two major works are L’Ornement polychrome and Le costume historique. Albert Racinet received the Legion of Honour on August 5 , 1878 .
