Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon ( 1707 - 1788)

Prominent French naturalist, mathematician, and cosmologist, served as the director of the Jardin du Roi, which is now known as the Jardin des plantes. Buffon’s significant body of work left a lasting impact on subsequent generations of naturalists, including notable French scientists Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Georges Cuvier. He authored the thirty-six volume series; Histoire Naturelle during his lifetime, and additional volumes, based on his notes and further research, were published in the two decades following his passing.
