John Lloyd Hyndman ( 1836 - 1878)

Hyndman arrived in Adelaide in 1862, and first practised privately as a surveyor. He entered the service of the City Council in 1866, and under his supervision many important public works were carried out to the satisfaction of the civic body. In early life he was a midshipman on board a man-of-war, and engaged in surveying in the Persian Gulf and towards Kurrachee. He was subsequently employed by the Indian Government to superintend the construction of railway works above Bombay. He died at Felixstow, August 1, 1878.
