Sir William Johnston ( 1802 – 1888) He started as a printer in 1825 and then founded the firm of A & K Johnston. On 2 December 1837 he was appointed engraver and printer to Queen Victoria. He first published a ‘National Atlas’ and a ‘Royal Atlas’ which included much new information especially in the newly settled colonies in the Southern Hemisphere. Recent discoveries inland, in many colonies were now noted for the first time.
