William Louis Walton (? 1808 - 1879)

William Louis Walton (1808?-1879) Artist, landscape painter, engraver and lithographer.

Perhaps related to Joseph Fowell Walton (see BME 2011), although census returns make it clear that Walton was unsure of his exact place of birth (although probably Hackney) and even uncertain of his true age. His father’s name was given as Joseph (occupation naval officer) at the time of his marriage in 1843 and he was probably the William Walton born 18 Jun 1808, son of Joseph and Jane Walton, baptised at St. Matthew, Bethnal Green, 17 Jul 1808. Walton exhibited landscapes at the Royal Society of British Artists 1837-1840 and at the Royal Academy in 1855. He married Sophia Robinson Dent (1824-1907), the daughter of a corn-factor, at St. Olave, Hart Street, on 1 Jul 1843. In 1851, he was resident in Homerton with his wife and a daughter, Sophia Lucy Walton (1843-1920), with two more daughters, Edith Berengaria Constance (1855-1940), and Isabel Rowena (b.1858). He died 14 May 1879 and probate on an estate valued at under £200 was granted to his widow 7 Aug 1879.
