Description:

Scarce, attractive early c.20th commemorative trade brochure published to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Andrews Bros.

Published Melbourne, Andrews Bros. Pty. Ltd., 1926, 24 unnumbered pages: illustrations, portraits in brown card wrappers with gilt lettering.

Proprietary Limited, marking the firm’s Golden Jubilee from its foundation in 1876. Issued in an elegant gilt-stamped wrapper with decorative Art Nouveau-inspired typography and the dates “1876” and “1926” embossed on the upper cover, the booklet was produced both as a corporate history and as a promotional publication. It chronicles the company’s growth from a small family enterprise into one of Australia’s leading manufacturing concerns, illustrating its factories, products, workforce and technological development while reflecting the confidence and industrial optimism of the inter-war period. Such jubilee publications were generally printed in limited numbers for customers, suppliers and shareholders and are now uncommon survivals of early Australian commercial printing.

Andrews Bros. was established in Melbourne in 1876 by the Andrews family and developed into one of Australia’s best-known manufacturers of household and industrial metalware. Over the following decades the company expanded steadily, introducing modern manufacturing techniques and an increasingly diverse range of enamelled, galvanised and pressed-metal products for domestic, agricultural and commercial use. By the early c.20th century Andrews Bros. Proprietary Limited operated large, mechanised works and had become a significant employer, with its products distributed throughout Australia and exported overseas. The publication of this Jubilee volume in 1926 celebrated fifty years of continuous operation and highlighted the firm’s reputation for quality manufacturing and technical innovation during Australia’s period of rapid industrial growth
