Description:

Map of the world on Mercators projection showing the tracks of Cook’s voyages. Australia and New Zealand are shown according to Cook with Tasmania joined to the mainland and with an imaginary south coast. Thomas Bowen Map and print seller, who were engravers to George II of England Louis XV of France. His father Emanuel worked in London from about 1714 to 1767. He died in 1767 in reduced circumstances. His son took over the family business &amp revived it&#8217s fortunes.

Thomas Bowen (1733 - 1790)

Mapmaker and print seller, son of Emanuel Bowen in Wales. Apprenticed to his father 1748. In partnership with Richard Reynolds in 1761 when they were prisoners in the King's Bench, required to make a schedule of their estate and effects as insolvent debtors. He produced numerous maps and atlases. He died in 1790 in reduced circumstances.
