C.18th engraving of Wallis in the Dolphin, at Tahiti June 24th 1767, after firing on the natives who had attacked the ship with stones, Wallis began to make conciliatory gestures so as to obtain provisions and supplies. This culminated in Queen Oberea visiting the ship and Wallis being invited to the Queen’s house.
