Biography:
William Hatherell (1855-1928)
Painter born in London and studied at the R.A. Schools 1877–9. He exhibited at the R.A. and Royal Watercolour Society (WS) from 1879, showing portraits, genre and illustrations. He worked for Cassell’s the publishers, who sent him to Australia to illustrate the Picturesque Australasia. He also worked for The Graphic, and for American magazines.
This view is one of a series made in anticipation of Australia’s centenary.
