Description:

Scarce early c.20th atlas with thirty three detailed colour printed engraved maps.

Second edition. 4to. (iv), (4), 20, 16, 4, 2 pp. Publisher’s red cloth, gilt lettered to the upper panel, rebacked to style. Frontispiece illustrating the “flags of all nations”, 6 full page maps including individual maps of the north and south polar regions with surrounding universal time charts and 26 double page maps, all in colour.

George Washington Bacon (1831 - 1922)

Bacon was a publisher, map seller, bookseller and lithographer. He came to England in 1862 initially as an agent for the American Atlas Company. Eventually he took over the James Wyld map business in 1893.
