Description:

Scarce c.18th French engraving of a  flying proa, a sailing outrigger boat of the Chamorro people of the Northern Marianas (Larrons /Island of thieves).

These canoes were built with an outrigger float kept windward and opposite a single, triangular sail. The upturned ends of the canoe were identical with no distinction between the stern and bow.
