A Black Bird collected by the scientist from La Perouse’s expedition while at Lituya Bay is a fjord located on the coast of the Southeast part of the U.S. state of Alaska. The bay was noted in 1786 by Jean-François de La Pérouse, who named it Port des Français. Twenty-one of his men perished in the tidal current in the bay.

Gaspard Duche de Vancy (1756–1788)
Duche de Vancy was a French 18th century artist, brought up in Vienna. He exhibited in the Paris Salon of Young Artists(1781) and also at London’s Royal Academy (1784).
