Description:
Scarce, c.19th hand coloured engraved panorama of Brisbane which was named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, Governor of New South Wales from 1821-1925.
The settlement grew from a penal colony and in 1859 was chosen as the capital. The panorama was made just two years after the 1864 Great Fire that burnt many of the CBD business premises and stock which were mainly made from wood. After the fire rebuidling was mainly in stone.
