Scarce map soley devoted to the Tongan Islands by Dumont D’Urville. 

The French mapmaker Tardieu was well connected with the voyages of exploration and the discoveries made during the period of Enlightenment.

Mapmaker:

Ambroise Tardieu (1788-1841) 

French cartographer and engraver of Paris Rue de Sorbonne No 385 was born in 1788 and died in 1841. Tardieu composed maps for Voyages of La Harpe 1821, for Dumont Durvill 1833 and an Atlas Universal in 1842. He also worked for the depot marine.
