Description:

Rare etching of a female Curassow by William Hayes.

William Hayes (1735 - 1802)

English ornithological watercolour artist and publisher. From the rare privately printed series, “Rare and Curious Birds”. He employed no fewer than seven of his children in printing and colouring the prints. In producing these bird studies Hayes produced a lightly etched image which was heavily coloured. In this way the resulting print resembled a watercolour rather than the customary hand coloured prints of the times.
