Scarce c.19th German lithograph of the Long Nosed Potoroo.
The first printed engraving of a Long-nosed potoroo was published in Governor Phillip’s A Voyage to Botany Bay with the date, ‘Sept 4. 1789. Surgeon’s John White’s description referred to the foot as having only three toes and this error was perpetuated in the specific name, triedactlus: ‘three-toed potoroo’ (Strahan)
