C18th engraving of the inhabitants ‘Baie de Castries’, on the far eastern coast of Russia, named in honor of Marshal Castries, and explored between 27 July and 2 August 1787, by La Perouse. Present day port of De-Kastri. They are shown in native dress and with fish smoking within a well constructed wooden hut.

Duche de Vancy was a French 18th century artist, brought up in Vienna. He exhibited in the Paris Salon of Young Artists(1781) and also at London’s Royal Academy (1784).
