Description:

Rare c.19th, hand coloured engraving depicting passengrers walking away from the train over the flooded railway line.

The 1870’s devasting floods in Victoria near Runnymeade were described as a sea, with water covering the plains three feet deep from O’Dea’s Creek halfway to Runnymede. Railway traffic was halted on the Echuca line, and the line was found to be dangerously undermined.
