Decorative C19th map of Hte Marne with numerous vignettes including a view of Langres and a  portrait of Diderot, a French philosopher, art critic, and writer, best known for serving as co-founder, chief editor, and contributor to the Encyclopédie along with Jean le Rond d’Alembert.

Mapmaker:

Alexandre Vuillemin (1812-1880)

Vuillemin was a prominent 19th century French cartographer distinguished by his elaborate style of maps with vignettes and decorative borders. He issued an Atlas Universal in 1847, an Atlas Illustre in 1861, and a large map of Oceanie in 1867, and revised the Atlas Migeon in 1874.
