Portrait of Phillipe Buache (1700-1773). Buache was a well known French cartographer and publisher who succeeded his relative, Delisle. He re-published many maps by Delisle and Jaillot. He was best known for his theoretical work on the physical aspects of geography. He believed in the concept of a southern continent.
Louis-Leopold Boilly (1761 - 1845)
Boily was a French painter and draftsman. A gifted creator of popular portrait paintings, he also produces a vast number of genre paintings vividly documenting French middle-class social life. His life and work spanned the eras of monarchical France, the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Empire, the Bourbon Restoration and the July Monarchy
