Eduard Hildebrandt (1817 - 1868)

Hildebrandt was a German artist who first worked as an apprentice to his house painter father. After moving to Berlin studied under the marine painter Wilhelm Krause (1803-1864) and later to Eugène Isabey (1803-1886). In 1843 he returned to Berlin, where he met Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) a geographer, naturalist and explorer. Hildebrandt is best known for his topographical views. From 1843 Hildebrand travelled extensively and the best known record of his visits are his series of chromo lithographic prints of cities. Hildebrandt died at Berlin on the 25th of October 1868.
