Superbly embellished c.18th double hemispherical c.18th world map with allegorical figures of the four continents in each corner surrounded by landscape views.

The routes of Tasman, Magellan and Mendana are shown, with Australia and a small portion of New Zealands west coast charted with the discoveries made by Abel Tasman on his two voyages of exploration 1642-1643. California is shown as an island and the north west coastline is uncharted.

Apprenticed at the age of 9, Vander AA began his career at Lieden in 1683 as a Latin trade publisher, publishing classical texts pertaining to medicine and science. His publications include; Naaukeurige versamling der gedenk-waardigste zee en land-reysen 1706, Atlas Nouveau 1710, and Galerie Agreable du Mond.
