A superb example of this rare, c.19th hand coloured engraving of the Olive-back Oriole, by Sir William Jardine.

Jardine with assistance of John Prideaux John prodiuced the series, Illustrations of Ornithology drew on their wide range of contacts to illustrate and describe a wide range of species, many appearing here for the first time. Skins of some of the species described were supplied by correspondents in Australia, Madeira, India and Africa.
