John Leech (1817 - 1864)

Cartoonist and caricaturist educated at Charterhoues and then studied medicine but turned to art. From 1841 he contributed hundres of sketches of middle-class life and political cartoons to Punch, as well as the Illustrated London News (1856). Over the next twenty-three years Punch Magazine published 3,000 of Leech's drawings and 600 cartoons.
