Biography:
Joseph Wagner (1706 – 1780) was a highly regarded eighteenth century
engraver and draughtsman. The German born artist, studies painting under
Jacopo Amigoni, who persuaded him to pursue engraving. In 1739, Wagner moved to Venice near the Rialto
Bridge, where he started up a print publishing business and school. His
prints are numerous, and his students included Francesco Bartolozzi, Antonio
Capellan, Fabio Beradi and Jean Jacques Flipart.
