London geographical publisher, globe maker, and founder of the firm George Philip & Son. He started business in 1834 in Liverpool and from about 1848 he traded as “George Philip & Son” with his son and successor George Phillip II (1823-1902. Philip retired 1 July 1879 and the business was coninued by his son and nephew.
