Specimens of New Zealand workmanship.

Rare engraving from the official British Admiralty sanctioned edition of the accounts of Cook’s second voyage. All other later copies made of this image by other publishers were unauthorised, usually smaller and inferior in quality.

Cook had arrived at Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand on 12 May 1773 and stayed in the area till 6 June 1773. Specimens of Maori implements, musical instruments and other carved items were obtained.
