Rare, c.19th hand colouired engraving of St. Hubert’s winery in the Yarra Valley.

St Hubert’s Winery, Coldstream, Yarra Valley, Victoria, established in 1862 by the Swiss-born viticulturalist Hubert de Castella, was one of the pioneering estates of the early Yarra Valley wine industry. By the late c.19th it was among the district’s largest vineyards and had achieved international recognition, winning the Emperor of Germany’s Grand Prize at the Melbourne International Exhibition of 1881 and a Grand Prix at the Paris Exposition of 1889. The vineyard was abandoned during the decline of the Yarra Valley wine industry in the early c.20th and replanted in 1966 as part of the region’s revival.
