Biography:

Friedrich Johann Justin Bertuch (1747-1822)

A successful entrepreneur and a man of the Age of Enlightenment Bertuch had been orphaned at the age of 15 and lived with his uncle. He pursued an education in theology and law eventually became a publisher and the largest employer in his home town of Weimar. This image is from the first pictorial encyclopedia for children Bilderbuch fur Kinder which was a landmark in educational publishing.
