Rare c.18th engraving from the French edition of the accounts of Cook’s first voyage, published (1774) the year after the English edition (1773).

The title in the English versions was: [A View of the inside of a house in the island of Ulietea (Raiatea), with the representation of a dance to the music of the country.]

The view depicts the inside of a house showing in detail the construction methods used. The figures in the dance have been rendered in a classical romantic style by Giovanne Battista Cipriani.
