Description:

Scarce, c.19th hand coloured engraving of Wappan station and homestead, Mansfield, Victoria.

Purchased in 1845 by her husband John Bon, Bon was reknown for being one of the few pastoralists of the day that fairly employed the local indigenous people to work on the station. After his passing, Mrs Bon  continued to raise their children and was a formidable advocate for Aboriginal rights. Wappan Station continues today to be one of Victoria’s largest sheep stations.
