Johannes Honter ( 1498 - 1548)

Transylvanian Saxon Renaissance humanist, theologian, and cartographer who was  instrumental in leading the Protestant Reformation and establishing the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Romania. A graduate of the University of Vienna, Honter also established a lasting humanist gymnasium in Brașov and utilized his own printing press to disseminate educational texts and Reformation pamphlets. His legacy includes the influential geography manual Rudimenta Cosmographica and significant, heart-shaped (cordiform) maps.
