Rare engraving from the official British Admiralty sanctioned edition of the accounts of Cook’s second voyage. All other later copies made of this image by other publishers were unauthorised, usually
smaller and inferior in quality.

Artefacts from Tongatabu. Cook visited the islands 2 – 8 October 1773 and then again 26 – 29 June 1774.

5. A Musical instrument, composed of reeds.

8. The end of a lance; the point of which is wood hardened in the fire.

9. The aforesaid lance entire.
