Rare French pictorial engraving of the history of the Roman Empire from  1984 BC to 500 AD, surrounded by numerous views of iconic buildings by Edouard Auguste Patrice Hocquart (1789-1870).

At bottom are twenty portraits of Roman Emperors while at top is a large dramatic vignette of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius flanked by four images of military and naval items. There are three extensive tables of information.
