Rare, early c.19th hand coloured copper engraved map by Ambroise Tardieu (1788-1841) who was well connected with the French voyages of exploration and the discoveries made during the period of Enlightenment.
The lower polar map shows the tracks of the latest voyages including those of Cook’s first, second and third voyages, the route of Phips, Berentz are also included.

Ambroise Tardieu (1788 - 1841)
Tardieu was a French cartographer and engraver of Paris Rue de Sorbonne No 385 was born in 1788 and died in 1841. Tardieu composed maps for Voyages of La Harpe 1821, for Dumont Durville1833 and an Atlas Universal in 1842. He also worked for the depot marine.
