Antique Maps of Tibet and the Himalayas
Antique maps of Tibet and the Himalayas reflect one of the most challenging regions for early cartographers. Mountain ranges, high plateaus and limited access led to speculative representations well into the 18th century.
Later surveys associated with British and Russian exploration improved accuracy. These maps are valued for their association with exploration, geography and imperial rivalry.
