Biography:

Charles Exeter Devereux Crombie (1880 – 1967)

Crombie was born in Scotland but grew up in Surrey as his father (James Crombie) was partner at the London architectual firm Bryne & Crombie. Criombie began his artistic career by working as a sculptur however, he found his success as an editorial cartoonist. The Rules of Golf was published by Perrier in 1906 as a series of humorous postcards, soon became a very successful series. Following this, Crombie’s The Rules of Cricket was also met with equal success. Crombie continued to illustrate for books and magazines up until the 1930’s.
