At the Barrier Ranges-The Poolamacca Tinfields and the Township of Euriowie.

Tin was discovered near Poolamacca, 80 km north of Broken Hill, in early 1884 by Ralph Hodgson, John March and Henry Hines. By the end of 1886 about 35 claims had been taken out and many floated into tin mining companies. The press of the day reported that the tin lodes were larger and higher grade than those of New England and favourable comparisons were even made with the mines of Cornwall. This reporting fueled a brief speculative boom in tin mining shares. Some spectacular specimens were sent to the Adelaide Jubilee Exhibition in1887. The township of Euriowie was established in the southeast of the field and by 1887 had a population of 500, six hotels, two banks, stores and a police station. Despite the establishment of several mining operations (notably the Caloola, Wheal Byjerkerno, LadyDon, Cosmopolitan, Ruby, Victory and Mount Euriowie), returns from the field were poor and development hampered by a lack of water and crushing machinery.
