Description:

Scarce c.18th double hemisphere Italian hand coloured engraved world map by Antonio Zatta, superbly embellished with four female figures in each corner representing the continents and an armillary sphere at top.

The map includes the discoveries and tracks of Cook on his first voyage of discovery. The tracks of Bougainville are also shown. Australia is shown with the east coast joined from Van Diemen’s Land to the Solomon Islands and with an imaginary southern coast line added. The tracks of Cook’s circumnavigation of New Zealand are shown but the island is crudely drawn.
