Rare colonial engraved view of Gippsland. Miners had been prospecting on the Freestone Creek, near the township of Briagolong and gold was found in small quantities. By 1868 many claims had been taken out along the its tributaries. At one stage there were 200 miners on one tributary named Maximillian’s Creek.
