Description:
Scarce, c.18th hand coloured engraved town plan of Paris by Isaac Tirion (1705-1765).
A finely engraved mid c.18th Dutch plan of Paris and suburbs title, A New Plan of the City of Paris and its Suburbs, published in Amsterdam, 1756. The plan has an extensive key at lower left and a scale of distances at to the right. It presents the city in remarkable detail, showing the principal streets, public buildings, bridges, and the course of the Seine, extending to the newly developed faubourgs beyond the old city walls. Issued for the Dutch market in 1756, this Nieuwe Kaart reflects the strong commercial and cultural interest in Paris as Europe’s artistic and intellectual capital. Decorative cartouches and an elegantly balanced composition typify the high standard of map making in Amsterdam during the period.
