Rare lithograph of Mount Jellore Lookout which is located in the Mount Gibraltar Reserve between Mittagong and Bowral. It is regarded as the finest view on the mountain with the Mittagong-Bowral Road and the Main Southern Railway. In the far distance, the Nattai and Kanangra wilderness areas and the Blue Mountains (Katoomba) can be seen.
Biography:
Sir Thomas L. Mitchell (1792-1855)
Surveyor-General of NSW, and held the position until 1855. He led four major expeditions, to north-western NSW in 1831, to Bourke and down the Darling River in 1835, along the Lachlan River to the Murrumbidgee and Murray Rivers and into western, central and north-eastern Victoria in 1836, and to mid-western Qld in 1845-1847.
