A 19th century publication outlining early 17th-century Dutch accounts concerning Arctic exploration and early voyages to Australia and the Pacific, originally compiled by cartographer Hessel Gerritsz. This 1878 edition, published in a small run by the renowned Amsterdam bookseller Frederik Muller, reproduces Gerritsz’s influential collection of travel tracts, including narratives by Isaac Massa on Russia and Siberia, and Pedro Fernández de Quirós’s account of his voyage in search of Terra Australis. This edition includes English, Latin & Dutch translations.
Gerritz was a Dutch engraver, cartographer, and publisher. He is considered to one of the most important of all Dutch map makers of the Golden Age of Dutch cartography.
