Rare. c.18th hand coloured engraving of Banksia serrata which was first collected at Botany Bay on 29 April 1770, by Sir Joseph Banks and Dr Daniel Solander, naturalists on the Endeavour, during Cook’s first voyage.
Published London as the Act Directs Dec. 29, 1789, by I.D. Delrett.
However, the species was not published until April 1782, when Carolus Linnaeus the Younger described the first four Banksia species in his Supplementum Plantarum.
Common names: Old man banksia, saw banksia, saw-tooth banksia and red honeysuckle.

Frederick Polydore Nodder (1751 - 1800)
Nodder was an English natural history artist of plants, animals and fauna. He was botanical artist to Queen Charlotte and also worked for Joseph Banks on the monumental publication of the botanical specimens collected on James Cook's first voyage. Known as Banks' Florilegium, it was never printed during Bank's lifetime.
